Martin’s Haven: fledglings and Kestrels

Two Kestrels paid us separate visits on Saturday: a male and female.

It seemed like almost every bird in the valley fledged at the weekend, too: Whitethroats, Stonechats, Linnets (by far the most numerous), Dunnocks, Blackbirds and Wrens. Most intriguing were two Reed Bunting fledglings that could scarcely fly, especially one they had bathed in the stream! We get Reed Buntings regularly, but have never seen them hold territory for long enough to suspect nesting.

At least two grass snakes (adults).

On the Deer Park the Renny’s Slip Choughs have fledged three young. And a party of 16 (presumed non-breeders) over.
