The recent Waders still present on the high tide, c14 RPs, five or six Dunlin, 6 Sanderling. A new arrival in the form of a Wheatear & a Gannet fishing close inshore.
Early this morning I met Owen Leyshon on a busman`s holiday from "Dunj" well known by a few of Pembsbirders especially those who do the ringing & he was telling me about the changes & advances being made at my stamping ground decades ago, Rye Harbour NR. I remember it from its infancy & the lasting friendship I`ve had since with the first Warden Dave Flumm, the nights spent at "Watch Cottage" with no electricity, running water & how we used to collect driftwood from the beach for the fire. The work parties on the Ternery Pool to encourage Sandwich Terns to breed & many other (hilarious) things that took place after an evening in the "Inkermans Arms"
Now there are Sandwich Terns breeding, Avocets, Med Gulls & thousands of visitors now visit the site, It`s come a long way. Happy memories......
