11.35 today - an osprey flew purposefully N down the Carew River on the falling tide and round the corner into the Cresswell River. It did one half-turn leading me to hope it was hunting, but no. I followed along the shore as far as the quarry creeks, but did not see it again - I checked all the usual perches.
Lots of birds were flying from roosts to feed on the shore.
The first here this autumn - as the first last year was on 18 August I've been keeping an eye on West Williamston since mid-August.
Always something to see at West Williamston - this female brown hairstreak settled within reach of my camera phone yesterday, and numbers of painted ladies, silver-washed fritillaries etc. have been good.
