Eight today at the airfield resting by the puddle on the hard stand just east of The Hookses, flew off at 11am NNW towards St Brides Bay and maybe even Wexford with a strong SE wind. One bird had a neck ring, possibly C0Z, so probably not the same birds as seen on 26th. Tony Fox informed.
Plenty of Jackdaws (1000+) and Starlings (500) in coherent flocks, plus a group of 20 Golden Plover and a group of about 50 Skylarks got chased by a Merlin in the stubble field.
The four Whoopers were on the river at the Gann, with two pale-bellied Brents at the mouth of the river. A single Ruff kept close company with a single Black-tailed Godwit up the river. There was also a colour ringed Dunlin in a group of six on the pools, orange left leg and yellow on right.
At Marloes a male Pintail was again at the east end of the mere and a Merlin was on a fence post at the western end near the Lapwing flock, but obviously awaiting the preferred prey as finches were ignored and it only moved when a flock of Starlings came in. A ringtail Harrier flew westwards over the Marloes Sands car park and mere as I was leaving at 4pm and kept going towards Skomer, so may be staying the night.
