Finished the 2nd visit winter farmland bird survey this morning, surveying the fields to the south and west of Runwayskiln (thanks to Pete Smithies for access). Biggest surprise was a male Yellowhammer, mobile and calling a lot so perhaps recently arrived...only my 2nd record here in at least a decade. Also a very vocal Redshank continually circling the mere, and a female Pintail visible - most ducks well hidden so clearly a Harrier hadn't been through in a while.
