At 11.00 three BLACK SWANS flew low overhead and out to Point St John before turning south and down Ramsey Sound.
It is not often I use the word stunning to describe a bird encounter, but this sighting was truly spectacular. The white of their primaries, merging into half of their secondaries and bright red bills, all contrasting with the rest of their black plumage and the deep blue of the sky, had a wow factor. And they flew in total silence; no honking, no wing beats.
The purist will, perhaps, observe they are not "real", but for us, they have the same right to be on our list, taking our patch count to168, the caravan to129. But the bush list remains at 50!
