Blackwits, Llangwm Ferry

From Graham Stephens - This winter has seen a major increase in this particular wader. Yesterday I counted 120+ and they have been turning up in these kind of numbers for several months although not on a regular basis. Mostly, they choose to feed along the waterline pulling out lugworm. Today I can only see 5. Several of the birds in the large group are sporting breeding plumage. Conversely, redshank numbers are down to the occasional daily visitor along with the odd oyster catcher and one or two greenshank (although this doesn’t take into account Llangwm Pill). Dunlin and lapwings have now moved on.
Three species of duck are evident, namely Teal, Mallard and Shelduck. Teal are the most numerous but numbers are still in single figures for each species over the last few days.
