Thanks to Chris for the heads up, saw 4 of the 5
Black-tailed Godwits at the top end of the lagoon this evening, all clearly of the
islandica race with deep red extending well down the underparts. Earlier during my WeBS count at Hook I recorded 86, many of them also sporting breeding plumage and all of the same race heading for Icelandic shores. Also surprised to see some
350 Golden Plover at Hook, when the majority of winter visitors seem to have moved on (e.g. no Dunlin or Lapwing).
