A light grass frost, nil wind and wall to wall sunshine from the start, made for a perfect pre-breakfast look around the campsite.
Overnight arrivals included the first for the year Willow Warbler (1) and Goldcrest (3) all busy in the pine trees at the entrance to the camp.
A look out across a "mill pond" Whitesands Bay revealed a diver - not so many sightings of this group in the bay as in bygone years - and certainly not one with such a distinct thigh patch: winter plumage Black-throated Diver.
