Preselis Hobby

A smart adult hobby chasing the swallows about at Carn Goedog yesterday, followed by an immature peregrine having a go at a small flock of carrion crows. A kestrel hovering over the ridge rounded off the falcon trio.

Wheatears have got off to an early start this year with several pairs feeding young already. The last three breeding seasons have been poor in this area, with either cold, wet spells at a critical stage of the breeding cycle, or last year's very dry weather making it hard to find soil invertebrates. Adult numbers have halved since 2015, so they need a couple of productive seasons if they are to bounce back.
