Setting off from Pencarnan Camp at 06:45 I encountered just the one doggy walker. Despite the camp being chokka with tents and tourers, their inhabitants showed respect for the Early Birder!
On gaining Point St John - kic, kic. Surely not? Yes, a Great-spotted Woodpecker on the rocks above the sea, soon to be pursued by an unimpressed Rock Pipit. As I trotted down the Sound towards the lifeboat station the pecker moved from post to post ahead of me. (dispersal following a good breeding season?) In Kestrel Cove, (they failed to breed this year) three Common Sandpipers searched the strandline. A careful search of the rapidly increasing flocks of Linnets revealed the odd Reed Bunting.
Back at the camp, still no movement. Thanks guys for your thoughtfulness.
