Winterton Marsh and nearby

It was interesting to see Rosemary's note about Reed Warblers and I noted that several people had commented earlier in the year about low numbers of this species.  A couple of days ago we had a short ringing session in Winterton Marsh and caught  14 Reed Warblers including about 50% this years fledglings BUT only 2 Sedge Warblers and no young ones.  Similarly at Kilpaison on Sunday remarkably few Sedge Warblers - only 2 in 80 birds handled.

Yesterday very early morning (before 5am) Anna recorded a singing Quail in the valley near Anchor Hoaten about a mile north of St Ishmaels.
