Gann & Dale Airfield

This mornings mega-flock (for here) of 35 Sandwich Terns was a superb sight & sound.  They circled the top of the lagoon looking for somewhere to land but the vegetation on the islands was too much for them.  Also at the top of the lagoon 4 juvenile Mediterranean Gulls, at least 2 were sporting red darvic rings, but they were too far away (and partially obscured in the  grass) to read.

A bit later as the tide dropped we looked through all the small waders.  Totals included 4 Sanderling, 39 Ringed Plover & 52 Dunlin, along with 1 Black-tailed Godwit 1 Whimbrel.  2 of the Curlew sported colour rings (08 & 17).  Also a single Common Sandpiper flying around the lagoon.

Earlier at Dale Airfield 25 Ringed Plover on the usual crossroads but they flew off in the direction of the Gann so could be amongst the total noted above.  Also 5 Wheatear.
