Winter thrushes

Apart from isolated 'zee' calls at night, the first redwings in the Maenclochog area did not appear until 16 October and have been relatively far and few between since then. This morning, four separate thrush flocks numbering 100 - 150 each passed eastwards overhead at Llandilo, and almost all of them were fieldfares with the odd redwing thrown in. Usually the ratio is the other way round. Along the lanes there have been lots of chaffinches feeding on beech mast, but hardly any noticeable migration of finches this autumn.
