A short stroll along the Nevern estuary

With such wonderful sunlight and calm weather, we simply couldn't stay in, so ventured up north to Sam's patch to have a short stroll near the south shore of Nevern Estuary. Usual expected estuarine  species included greenshank, small numbers of redshank, oycs, curlew, five species of gull (no obvious ringed birds though), the regular flock of wigeon, a couple of little egrets, little grebes etc.

It was nice to see at least three common sandpipers busy feeding: two on the Newport Bay side (one on the north shore, one on the south shore) and one on the other side of the road upstream of the Iron Bridge.

A couple of chiffchaffs were also feeding in the willows alongside various woodland residents.

A hungry bird perhaps? Probing as deep as it could into in the soft estuarine mud.
We didn't see the water pipit but possibly didn't go to the right spot. The landscape was quite stunning however in the bright sunlight.
