Eastern Cleddau late morning

A late morning visit to the Eastern Cleddau from a few vantage points produced 115 redshanks - mostly near Slebech. Lower down there were numerous lapwings (100+) and dunlin (60+) roosting upstream of the Landshipping slipway.

As well as five little grebes, two great crested grebes were feeding in the Eastern Cleddau. Three common sandpipers were feeding opposite Slebech – a typical wintering area for them. Two adult whooper swans were upstream from Slebech, the one in the photograph was constantly calling.  These were almost certainly the birds noted by Chris Taylor up there a few weeks ago.

A couple of days ago, slightly further down the estuary near Landshipping Quay, there were 800+ dunlin at a high-tide roost site there, plus a few hundred lapwings and at least seven greenshanks. A flock of 18 greylags flew over to the Hook-side to feed in a pasture field.
