Ring-necked duck, Marloes Mere

After abandoning our intended Farmland Bird Survey visit due to the fog. Derek, Dave, Lisa and myself decided a wander down to the mere to check if the Scaup was around might be some compensation... if we could see anything at all in the increasingly misty conditions!! As we scanned the distant flock of 11 Tufties I remarked to Dave we should be ok to pick out the Scaup, but wouldn't want to make a call if a Ring-neck was among them. You've all heard this before, never throw down a challenge with DA present, his next words were, what do you make of the third bird from the left, Ring-necked duck! (The Scaup is on the right of the photo).
