Before the weather deteriorated too much, we thought we'd have a look along the seafront at Tenby close to high tide, to see if we could find any purple sandpipers at their usual location on the rocks under the Lifeboat station.
We found one feeding on the barnacles alongside a single turnstone. A bit later on what might have been another one (or possibly the same individual that had moved) was resting on the piling framework under the old lifeboat station slipway. At least 12 turnstones eventually showed themselves. There could well have been others, and other purple sands too, out of site.
On our return walk along the North Beach area, we couldn't find any blackcaps or black redstarts where we have seen them in the past. However, it was getting quite wet and windy so we could have missed various small passerines sheltering somewhere in the various Hotel seafront gardens.
