This morning, some 20-30 folk were finally able to make a re-arranged
visit Fishguard harbour outer-breakwater. This was organised by the mid-Pembs section of
the Wildlife Trust. A previous storm had prevented an earlier visit. Despite a
rather cold breeze and a brief hail shower the visit was rewarding.
Eight great crested grebes were
resting in the inner harbour and two red-throated divers were seen, including an adult in
full summer breeding plumage inside the breakwater and one still in winter plumage
further out.
A black guillemot inside the breakwater was still in winter
plumage.
At least eight purple sandpipers were seen well along the outer
edge of the breakwater.
Other species in the general area included ringed
plover, oystercatchers, four curlews, several turnstones, 5-6 gull species, guillemots,
razorbills and gannets.
Thanks to David Ramsey for organising the event and to
the Harbour Authority for permitting access.
