Our usual walk to
Landshipping Quay this afternoon didn’t produce hoped for swallows, but it was
nice to watch two of the local red kites glide gracefully over the Cleddau.
At
the quay 60-70 teal were feeding in Millars Park pool along with the local pair
of Greylags. A separate flock of c.25 teal flew down-stream from Eastern
Cleddau towards Llangwm.
8-10 redshanks were feeding on the shore with three
greenshanks (one an adult, now more or less in summer plumage). We hadn’t seen
any greenshanks here for a few days, so they might have been new arrivals.
It was another
fine afternoon for displaying buzzards. One particular
male seemed keen to impress – making several steep-angled swooping dives from
up high with closed wings (almost falcon-like).
With warm southerly winds continuing, perhaps swallows and more soon!
