Elsewhere, the best of the birding was in any shelter from the wind: mixed Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs in the gorse, and a Swallow overhead, going West.
The nicest surprise was a lone Whimbrel feeding in the westernmost field of West Hook Farm. Remarkably confiding (for a Whimbrel): great views of the head pattern etc.
Non-birds: half a dozen Red Admirals amongst the Peacocks today. A Common Lizard basking in the hedgerow by Lockley Lodge, and an Adder basking in one of the regular spots.
