Martin’s Haven

A very heavy frost here, but our early morning raptor excitement today came from a duel between a ringtail Hen Harrier and one of the resident Buzzards. They twisted, turned, circled and tumbled all the way down the valley, until the harrier was seen off by a pair of Ravens. In the c.10 minutes of this wonderful sight, the harrier definitely had the best of it, benefiting from its fantastic manoeuvrability: it will be incredible when it does its “sky dancing” displays.

Elsewhere, a couple of Chiffchaffs in the garden and occasionally breaking into song. And a steady passage of auks along the tidal race towards Skokholm: all three species seen at range, but its still not like actually being on Skomer or Skokholm!
