Pembrokeshire Lockdown Bird Challenge Update

From David Ord - The Pembrokeshire Lockdown Bird Challenges’ are progressing steadily. At the end of the second week of lockdown, the team had seen or heard 28 species from house or garden (challenge 1) and had photographed 15 species (challenge 2). The graph shows the progress during the lockdown period and the species submitted so far to each challenge. The rules of the challenges are designed to enable as many people as possible to participate, keep the challenges alive for the length of the lockdown and, at the same time, see how many of Pembrokeshire’s bird species can be added to the lists. So the sharp eyed (and what birder isn’t?) will have twigged that some birds that have been photographed were apparently not ’seen’!? Such are the vagaries of ’The Rules’ - don’t ask me, I only made them up!  So far, Challenge 3 (submission of drawings / paintings of birds on the Pembrokeshire Avifauna) has not attracted any entries - give it time, even Netflix box sets are finite and what are we going to do after?
New contributors to ‘the challenges’ are always welcome, particularly Sash T with his Ring Ouzel and Tree Pipit!!, or someone with an ocean view to nab those auks, or anyone who is getting bored with lockdown in fact! Just hunt out ‘Pembrokeshire Lockdown Bird Challenges’ on Facebook. If you are averse to Facebook but would still like to join in, drop me an e-mail via the blog and we can discuss how you might do so.
