The local Orlandon circuit

We have a circular walk mostly along field edges which we can do from the house and we are doing it regularly at the moment. The highlight, apart from the extensive views, is usually the number of raptors in the air - today 3 Buzzards and two Red Kites. However the walk also goes through a damp willow patch with some dense scrub and I have always thought we ought to find something interesting there. No luck up till now but today there was a Garden Warbler singing its heart out from the dense bushes. It's probably on passage but we have never heard/seen a Garden Warbler in this neck of the woods before. Unlike the Grasshopper Warblers which have been intermittently reeling over the last few days in the marsh behind the house - they are a regular annual fixture and often stay to breed (though not last year). Our breeding Swallows arrived yesterday (several circuits then Zoom! straight through the pumphouse window!) and I heard the first Sedge Warbler from the garden just now so Spring is definitely progressing.
