Some interesting email correspondence today with Roger Thomson who, at 11:00 am, heard a Corncrake calling on the edge of Brawdy former RAF base.
I asked Roger to carefully check out Grasshopper Warbler song just in case. He confirmed the very harsh and metallic "creck-creck" sound of a Corncrake.
He hasn't seen it but it was calling from within scrub. The airfield has huge patches of bramble and gorse within the grassland there. He'll try again tomorrow to see if it is still there.

PS Not in Pembs but I've heard that today there were 13 bee-eaters on the Llyn peninsula, Caernarfonshire - one was caught and ringed in a garden apparently! Did they fly up that way via the Pembs coast I wonder?
