Winterton Marsh

For many years the Pembs Ringing Group has been catching swallows at Winterton Marsh and frequently we catch a few Pied Wagtails but during the last week on the 11th August we also caught two Yellow Wagtails.  These were the first we have ever ringed in over 40 years of pretty constant effort around the county.

In the last few days we have been trying hard to work out their age and sex - one was clearly a juvenile with its more or less black and white greater coverts (right) and there is a clear difference in facial patterns..

The adult (we think female) is the bird on the right and the wing and underparts are also the adult bird.
