Thanks to Derek for the early heads up about the Osprey (despite ruining a well earned lie in!) we were just too slow to see it sitting on the telephone pole IN OUR GARDEN! Still, brilliant to see it, even if our views were a bit brief. Visiting birder Gavin Thomas saw the bird yesterday and the ring was either 422 or 4ZZ, he will check his photos on a better screen and may be able to confirm. Huw Lewis last saw the bird, that I am aware of, eating a mullet on a fence post between the Gann and Mullock early afternoon (Huw's photo below).
We missed Brian's Marsh Harrier, but we did see 18 Brent Geese (all adults, all pale-bellied), our first of the autumn here. This evening, as well as Skokholm ringed Herring & Great Black-backed Gulls, one of 3 Mediterranean Gulls (2 adults, 1 1CY) was ringed white 32EN - looks to be from France or Belgium.
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper was photographed east of Stack Rocks towards St Govan's by Margaret Januszczyk, around 1230 today. It was noticed by her daughter and 'hung around for ages'. Might be worth a look tomorrow? Margaret's photo below, with her permission.
