Nice walking around on high ground between Dinas and Newport on Saturday. Two flocks of 25 and 45 golden plover; a gang of rooks mobbing a male kestral and then a red kite; a few groups of up to 60 linnets; small numbers of meadow pipits and skylarks; 2-3 buzzards; 2 ravens, 1 snipe.
In one area there were large numbers of fox moth caterpillars and devil's coach-horse beetles. One of the nature highlights for me this year was the flight of 100s of male fox moths on the evening of 1st June, Dinas Mountain.
