A cracking evening. Nothing spectacular but loads of birds and plenty of variety. Had a quick check that the Buff-breast was still there, which it was, with 3 Ringed plover, 2 Wheatear in the field, masquerading as Buff-breasts at times. Another 6 Wheatear on my walk. A flock of 50-60 Linnet were showing their annoyance at a hovering Kestrel above Marloes Sands. A little later a massive swirling flock of 100+ Goldfinch were doing the same to a female Sparrowhawk. Best was still to come, a Peregrine appeared and flushed a flock of corvids and Herring gulls that had been feeding in a stubble field, it wheeled away and with the sun behind it and birds in the air smashed into a Jackdaw before it knew where to look. A Golden plover which must have been flushed was calling as it headed out of the mayhem. Meadow pipits everywhere counted 150 before I got to the Deer Park. 2 Whinchat in the back of the rough ground before Martin's Haven, always a good spot for them on passage, was nice to see. Martin's Haven was lifting with fly life, as well as the cranefly there were clouds of midges in the warm sheltered damp valley and plenty of birds taking advantage. Most noticeable were what I assumed was a single Spotted flycatcher zipping around, but on closer inspection was at least 3 and may have been 4, amazing to watch and listen to them snapping at flies. A couple of Chiffchaff, 3-4 Blackcap, Robins, Pied wagtails, Meadow pipits and Stonechats, all tucking in. Great stuff. Met George M and Fiona ticking off the Buff-breast, who passed on the news of Andy's GWE, so a stop at Mullock to gaze over Lake Gann, but only egrets were of the Little variety, must'nt be greedy always tomorrow.
