Marloes, Dale and the Gann

Blustery morning out with Paul G, starting at Marloes Mere, the ducks looked a bit jittery but couldn't see anything that had put them on edge. 40+ Teal, 4 Shoveler and 4 Wigeon. A cormorant fishing in the South irrigation pool. 3-4 snipe got up a couple of times. Wheatear along the path. Flock of c100 Goldfinch. Most noticeable sight during the whole morning was the constant stream of Swallows moving east. Next stop Dale, for a good look around the village. Swallows here in numbers with more House Martins. Lots of birds in the sheltered spots, included min 6 Chiffchaff and same of Blackcaps, a few Goldcrest and couple of Coal tits. A brief look at the Gann, definitely hang onto your scope conditions. More Med gulls for a while (min 22 adults, 13 2cy and 2 1cy). 24 Redshank hunkered down and 2 Greenshank, 4 Bar-tailed godwit, brief flight views of what looked like a Ruff. 4 Wigeon on river and presumably the same 4 on foreshore. Wheatear on the foreshore. A stonechat flitting along the boulders looked out of place. 4 Little grebe in the pools. Good to see Dave and Lisa, and Andy B beat us to the mere.
