Sprinkle Pill

From David Ord:

A beautiful, still morning at the mouth of the pill but surprising quiet for birds in otherwise excellent viewing conditions. Only a dozen or so Redshank active, a similar number of Dunlin and 5 Grey plover. 15 Shelduck with very few other ducks showing. The large flock of Canada geese was present under the trees to the south of the pill and later dispersed to the fields above. A lone Great Crested Grebe sailed down the estuary on the falling tide. The flock of Golden Plover made 3 aborted attempts to settle on the mud flats, unsettled by something that wasn’t obvious, before moving elsewhere. Earlier in the week (Monday), in the midst of the gale, the Golden Plover were pretty much the only birds not sheltering within the depth of the pill, being content to rest on the top of the mud flat. The number in the flock has now risen to some 3000 birds.
