Bosherston Lakes this afternoon

We had a stroll along the Bosherston Lakes Eastern Arm footpath this afternoon. Waterfowl numbers were not especially high but included 9 Tufted Ducks (2 young males and 7 females/1CY birds) and 7 Goosanders (2 adult males). Gadwall numbers were low (just 2 seen) and no Goldeneye at all. Bosherston used to be one of the best sites in the county for this species, but not any more.

A Firecrest called briefly from the ivy-clad trees between the boat-house and the Court-site - a typical location for this species here in winter.

A fine Barn Owl was hunting along the roadside hedgerow on Burnett's Hill close to home on our return. This is the first one we have seen in the area for some time.
