Castlemartin Corse

A six-raptor day at the Corse - worryingly, none was a marsh harrier, but perhaps he/they had eaten earlier, or were further upstream.

The Corse is extensively flooded, the parts of the fen meadow between the track and the reedbed that aren't flooded are extremely wet, wellies essential. This is great. A minimum 200 teal were constantly on the move as were flocks of snipe. Smaller numbers of mallard and around a dozen shoveler were more sedentary. The ringtail hen harrier put on a fine display, hunting up and down the reedbed. Later, it had a spectacular scrap with a female merlin. A female peregrine scorched up and down the reedbed, coming to rest on a fencepost by Starman's Hall, with buzzard, kestrel and a female sparrowhawk also putting in appearances.

Water rail called fairly constantly, and three separate Cetti's could be heard from the hide. A couple of grey herons perched on fenceposts.
