Iceland Gull at the Gann

Hi Folks...

A walk alongside the lagoon at the Gann this morning quickly revealed the Iceland Gull standing with small group of immature herring gulls. It eventually flew off in a northerly direction. Also present were 10 wigeon, 4 shelduck and a few teal which were sheltering in the reeds. Waders included a handful of redshank and greenshank and 4 godwits (not sure which) that were slumbering on one of the islands, two of which were showing signs of summer plumage. In addition there were 3 little egrets. A single cormorant was fishing on the lagoon and judging by the number of fish jumping clear of the water he didn't go hungry. The tide was way out and binoculars were not adequate enough to distinguish what was present among the multitude of gulls, etc along the tideline. There was a sizable roost of mixed gulls above the bridge but an advancing squall made us chicken out and retreat to the cars and head for Marloes Mere. Here, numerous shoveller, mallard and a few wigeon were present along with coot and a couple of moorhen. A squadron of Canada geese flew in and a pair of dabchicks entertained us diving in the pond immediately in front of the Britton Hide. Unfortunately, during the half hour we spent at the hide there was not a raptor in sight.

Cheers...
