Marloes Peninsula

An afternoon around the Marloes Peninsula in the hope the swift might have lingered, unfortunately the closest Paul and I got was meeting visiting birder Rob Stratton who'd managed to catch up with it over the Deer Park earlier this morning. Nothing spectacular, but signs of new arrivals with good numbers of Willow warblers and fewer Blackcaps in the sunnier sheltered spots along the coast and on the Deer Park. More hirundines including the first 5-6 House Martins and an increase in Swallows. 6 White wagtails in potato field being prepared near Westhook Farm were my first of the year and 10 Wheatear on the walk. Seemed to be an influx of Linnet late afternoon with 3 flocks each of around around 40-50 birds suddenly appearing, one flock dropping down to drink at the mere, probably not a coincidence when a Merlin (or two) appeared and made a few forays around the mere. A peregrine also cruised across. The pair of Tufties remained in the north irrigation and the swans look to be nesting.
