Ring ouzel, Merryboro, eventually

Lovely walk across to the airfield from Kete hoping for Ring ouzel this afternoon was a bit frustrating. 2 black birds seen briefly, one disappearing into the gorse on the inner triangle probably wasn't an ouzel another in the stony field (where the dotterel was a couple of years back) probably was but it flew away from me into the sun before I could get it in the binoculars. Seemed to be plenty of Linnets around, one flock of 100 birds on the runway, with other groups of 25, 20 and 12. Chough also noticeable, biggest flock was 13 by the Hookses, with 3 birds near Westdale and a pair by St Ann's. Male kestrel near Kete. 7 Wheatear on the airfield, one above Westdale and 2 near Kete. Compared to recent days only 2 Willow warblers and a trickle of Swallows. Stonechat carrying a beak full of caterpillars.

Returning to Kete car park I was fortunate to bump into Alison who had hot news of just what I was after. Despite giving it a really good look I couldn't find Alisons bird in the area of the quarry or surrounding fields. Best were 4 Golden plover in a ploughed field near by. Calling it a day I'd barely driven a few hundred yards and there was the/a male Ring ouzel on top of the hedge by the entrance to Merryboro before flying across the road in the direction of Westdale. Thanks Alison.
