Marsh harrier, Marloes Mere

A Juv Marsh harrier was hunting over the mere and the fields down to Martin's Haven between 5pm and 8pm. Kestrels were active, a couple of hovering birds including one of this years youngsters. There were lots of Black clock ground beetles on the tracks which they may have been picking up. Otherwise a bit on the quiet side compared with the excitement over Skomer earlier. Single Wheatear, Whitethroat and a Willow warbler. A few small flocks of juv Starlings maybe 30 birds in total. 3 Chough.

Last light and high tide at the Gann: 7 Little egret-sized blobs in the roost, 36 Dunlin, 10 Ringed plover, 4 Turnstone, a Whimbrel and a Common sandpiper on the pools. (Sunday there were 12 Dunlin, 3 Ringed plover, 8 Turnstone, the Whimbrel and Common Sand. Also 20 Redshank, a Greenshank and a Black-tailed godwit.)

A look around Picton Point on Saturday in the hope of the osprey or GWE drew a blank, a Peregrine in the trees at Millin Pill with the local crows keeping close tabs on it, 2 Common sandpipers and 4 Greenshank and a GC grebe. An active Hornets nest in an old oak tree stump while sheltering from the drizzle.
