Swallows at Orlandon Kilns

We have a garden full of Swallows at the moment. For the last week or so they have been circling around over the garden and perching on the electricity wires. They are mostly, if not all, juveniles. They have also been investigating Peter's workshop which is an old army pumphouse - I don't think the two resident pairs, both with well-grown second broods, are very pleased about that - it gets very noisy indeed. When Peter went in there this morning there were 16 birds flying around! I counted 67 on the wires yesterday evening - here is a picture of a few of them.     Rosemary Royle

Footnote: We have just had a barbecue underneath the swirling mass of swallows, who took no notice of us at all. We reached a maximum of 112 on the wires at one point!
