Whinchats - Marloes Mere and Kete

Three Whinchats at Marloes Mere late afternoon directly out from the Britton hide in the middle lush scrub in the middle of the marsh. You might just about be able to see them in the picture - two on the tallest twig in the vicinity and one off to the right. The resident Stonechat seemed happy to regain his perch after half an hour.

Earlier in the morning I had visited Kete and thought I should check out the barbed wire fences in case any were around. Expecting the usual Stonechats and Linnets, within two seconds the first bird I saw was indeed a Whinchat.  There may have been more along the most westerly fenceline where the footpath from the car park meets the coastal path, but I was distracted by a group of nine Chough in the empty cattle field. Nearer to the car park, in the potato field there were several White Wagtails and two Yellow Wagtails.

At St Ann's Head there were at least 20 House Martins and over 50 Swallows gathering. Over 200 Herring Gulls were following a tractor that had just started ploughing a large stubble field west of Broomhill Farm. A couple of Buzzards and a Red Kite were also showing interest, so this site might produce something interesting tomorrow,
