Afternoon out and about with Paul started with a loop around a rather blustery Kete, c10 Wheatear in the old potato field, a Whitethroat, a calling Golden plover going over and a flock of 21 Chough (a separate group of 3 and also a pair).
By the time we got to the airfield a mist had begun to push in, it shrouded Skokholm but just held off. 2-3 Willow warbler on the track up, looked like a Chiffchaff in there on the way down. 6 Whinchat on the eastern fenceline. About 10 Wheatear. Kestrel, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk. A Whitethroat. A bright Yellow wagtail in the stoney sheep field with the Pied and White wags. Fewer pipits today. Nice to see George M and pick up some much needed tips on the finer points of wryneck finding, we did hope he might work some magic. Gann for high tide: couldn't pick out the Curlew sandpiper but wader numbers highest so far. 53 Dunlin, 40 Ringed plover, 25 Redshank (probably more), 6 Turnstone, 5 Greenshank, 3 Sanderling, 2 Knot, 2 Barwit, a Blackwit and a Common sandpiper. 8-10 Teal, 4 Little egret, 4 Heron, 3 Little grebe, a Snipe and a Water rail. There were a few distant warblers flitting in the reedbed.
