Good to see Sally and Pete Hudson's post the other day. This morning - low tide - just as I reached the gate onto the shore at around 0930, there was a piercing call and an osprey flew low over my head from somewhere behind me. It flew straight across the river, where it joined another, also calling - from the size, obviously male and female. They circled high together, then separated: I followed the female who flew about 500 m upstream and settled on the usual post by the channel. I crept up the "private foreshore" for a closer look, and sat in the salt marsh for about 40 minutes watching her. She preened a bit, looked around, but otherwise just sat there. Eventually I left her to it.
