Angle Bay this morning; Westfield Pill this afternoon

We made a flying visit to Angle Bay this morning, it was good to see Mike Davey there when we arrived.  At the Rhoscrowther/Kilpaison end, the pale-bellied Brent flock had risen to 36. They were starting to feed as the tide ebbed.

Other species included at least 68 Ringed Plovers (probably 70+ as they were difficult to count in the blustery conditions), 17 Dunlin, 2 Sanderlings, 37 Turnstones and 15 Bar-tailed Godwits flew in briefly but didn't settle. Little Egrets were quite numerous - 15 in total (10 on the beach closer to the village end and another 5 flying along the shore).

Over at the harbour-side, there were 6 Greenshanks and at least 75 Redshanks - most of these were resting on a large mat of semi-floating seaweed. Offshore we noted 10 Great Crested Grebes and 250+ Wigeon, but could not confirm if there were any Pintails around.

In the afternoon, we made a brief visit to Westfield Pill, where a Common Sandpiper was feeding on the muddy shore - likely to over-winter?

The peanut feeders were attracting typical resident passerines, including at least half a dozen Jays. There were no obvious small warblers though.
