A rather depressing trudge down Castlemartin Corse this morning. Despite plenty of water in front of the reed bed a distinct scarcity of birds with just 3 Mallard, 2 Moorhens, 2 Grey Herons. A group of 12 Snipe flew over. Otherwise just 4 Skylarks a couple of Goldfinches and a few Starlings. To add to the gloom a dead Barn Owl was in the ditch by the hide. It was ringed - GY27497 - further details to follow.
At Kilpaison midday with a couple of hours to high tide there was a good count of 26 Turnstone but otherwise pretty quiet with 15 Oystercatchers, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Barwit, 1 Redshank, 3 Dunlin, 4 Ringed Plover, 4 Little Egrets and 4 Mute Swans. Few Wigeon with perhaps a hundred or more a long way out in the bay.
