The Cattle egret was in the field with the cows on the corner just before Crabhall this afternoon. It did a fly around but came back and fed around the circular feeder. There was a Little egret enjoying the company of the cattle above Mullock Bridge earlier. Whilst I was checking it out 4 Whooper swans flew over heading towards Marloes, and later whilst scanning any likely looking fields from the Gann I spotted 7 Whoopers in a distant stubble field beyond Mullock Bridge (Grid ref SM 81420 09153).
A walk down to check the fields between Marloes Mere and West Hook failed to reveal any further swans, but the saturated stubbles here and later by Winterton farm were full of worm-munching Herring gulls. Otherwise a few thousand Starling by Trehill and further on 36 Lapwing. Very few duck visible on the mere. A silent whitish-bellied warbler (YBW?) appeared fleetingly in the sycamore and willow scrub by the pond near Goose cottage but didn't show again, grid ref SM 77678 08648.
