Sam Baxter

It is with considerable sadness that we heard this evening from Sam Baxter’s Grandson Nathan Hardy, that Sam died in hospital today following a terrible road accident.

Sam had been an absolute stalwart in the Newport area – having undertaken WeBS counts there for c. 15 years at least. His postings on the blog reflected his interest in gulls especially – including numerous sightings of colour-ringed birds, notably Common Gulls and Mediterranean Gulls in particular. His contributions to ringed sightings of Common Gulls are shown in the online Pembrokeshire Avifauna

If prizes had been awarded annually for the highest number of records entered to BirdTrack, Sam would have won it hands down every year. His passing will leave a large gap in the annual bird records in general from North Pembs. Our sincere condolences go to Sam’s family.
