Angle and St Govan’s

A day out with John Best starting out at Kilpaison a little before 10am as the tide was dropping. In perfect, calm, warm conditions there were a lot of wildfowl in the bay with 1500+ Wigeon c. 20 Pintail, just 7 Teal, a lone Shoveller and 47 Brent’s all apparently pale bellied. Apart from c.40 Redshank waders were rather thin on the ground with just 2 Ringed Plover, a few Curlew, 32 Oystercatchers and 4 Little Egrets. 4 adult Common Gull were on the tideline.

Round at Angle wader numbers were much better with 2 Greenshank, 20 Redshank, 28 Blackwits, 11 Barwits, 100+ Dunlin, c.40 Turnstones, 1 Knot, 8 Curlew and 2 Little Egrets. One Curlew was ringed - orange on left leg, white number 24 on black background on right. Also 26 Shelduck.

We finished off at St Govan’s early afternoon which was very quiet with just 1 Chough of note until a Short Eared Owl put in a couple of brief appearances to finish the day off nicely.
