A late afternoon visit to Angle Bay produced c.1,300-1,500 Wigeon and at least 12, possibly 13, Pintails (including 5 drakes and 7 ducks) resting offshore at Rhoscrowther (Kilpaison) on the rising tide. Before we could be certain of the Pintail total all the ducks, and most of the waders, scattered and flew off to the eastern side of the bay – probably disturbed by dog walkers and a passing Buzzard.
The waders included c.90 Oystercatchers, 50+ Redshanks, 100+ Dunlin, 5-6 Sanderlings, 20+ Turnstones and a similar number of Ringed Plovers.
Over at the village/harbour-end, we noted 47 pale-bellied Brents loafing on the sea, but gradually drifting towards the harbour. Five Great Crested Grebes were also offshore in the bay.

There was a nice mixed roost of c.50 Redshanks (probably including birds from the Rhoscrowther-side) 3 Greenshanks and a minimum of 13 (probably 15) Little Egrets – most of which flew over to the eastern shore to roost.
On our way to the village, we noted a nice large mixed
Starling/Redwing/Fieldfare flock over Kilpaison dune grassland – our first Fieldfares
this autumn - probably the birds noted by Paul.
