Cornish Courtney

This summer some juvenile Herring Gulls were orphaned in Cornwall and prior to release were colour-ringed, with a few fitted with GPS tags.  One of these birds - blue W:572 otherwise known as Courtney - came to Pembrokeshire in mid August.  Since then, the GPS tag has been relaying her movements which have included Skokholm, Skomer, Middleholm and the adjacent mainland:

On 2nd November the GPS transmitted from the southern end of Middlholm for the last time: it had been stationary there for 4 days.  Had Courtney succumbed, or had she lost the tag?  That question was answered today when I saw her at the Gann - Courtney lives!

Thanks to Emma Inzani from the University of Exeter for the information.  More details on the project can be found at: https://projectcgull.com/.

It really is worth carefully checking every gull you see, there might be a fascinating story to uncover and every re-sightings add valuable data.
