From Gareth Jenkins: I followed my directions and arrived at the common 2 p.m. Sat 13 Nov. I parked along the single track road by the first cattle grid to view, then after 1 hour moved down to the second cattle grid to view and scan, then back to the original spot at 4.10 p.m after noticing 3 other people arriving, to join them (Cliff, Clare, and Fran). My sightings were Buzzard 2, Red Kite 1, 3 flocks of Fieldfare totalling c300 birds, a few Redwing, max 30, with them and also feeding on berry bushes, Blackbird 6, Meadow Pipit 10, Linnet 12, Stonechat 6, Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 flew onto a decaying tree stump whilst I was at the second spot, Wren 1, Robin 2, Pheasant 2, Wood Pigeon over c 200, Lapwing 5-6 in far field, Grey Heron 1. Plus gulls and corvids flying over. But the highlight for me, 1 ring tailed Hen Harrier at 4.20 pm flying from the direction of St Davids over the road close to the small bridge and the cottages, continuing to the far Willow Carr. This was closely followed by a lovely male Hen Harrier flying in the opposite direction and towards the old airfield. Cliff, Clare and Fran also saw a Merlin before I joined them. I left 4.50 p.m. A good afternoon`s birding at a new location for me.
