We had stroll around Carew Millpond this afternoon. The "goose" was probably close to where it had been seen earlier in the day by David. For a short time, as it fed, it seemed to be having an interesting but friendly interaction with a local carrion crow - they seemed to be getting along like old buddies!
At least it gave us the chance for a reasonable size comparison. Probably not the smallest of its type, when recalling ones we have seen previously in WWT collections for example. Perhaps the size of a Barnacle Goose? Is it or isn't it though? According to Birds of Wales (2021) previous records in Wales have been assumed escaped/feral ones. Perhaps a feather or some droppings would be needed for DNA species confirmation?
Apart form small flocks of redwings seen on route (some still feeding on hawthorn berries near home) there wasn't much else on the millpond while we were there.
